Shen Yueyue, President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), presided over a symposium attended by experts in Beijing on November 19, to study the spirit of the fifth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and discuss how to unite and lead women to make consistent efforts in the new journey toward fully building a modern socialist country and promote the development of women and children's cause in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).
Shen stressed that the women's federations should stay focused on the goals and tasks set at the fifth plenary session, make full use of their advantages, channel women's strength to the greatest extent, give full play to women's role and guide women to make new achievements in the new era.
Shen called for efforts to grasp the opportunities, focus on key fields, promote the concerns of women, children and families to be incorporated into the outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan, boost the all-round development of women and children and implement the spirit of the important speeches delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping and the spirit of the fifth plenary session with actual actions.
At the symposium, the participants gave suggestions on implementing the basic state policy of gender equality, strengthening the building of the systems and mechanisms of women and children's development, incorporating key policies on women and children's development, and solving the problems of imbalances and inadequacies women and children face in terms of economic development, people's livelihoods and social participation.
After the speeches of the attendees, Shen spoke highly of the valuable opinions and suggestions raised by the experts, and she hoped that they will give full play to their advantages and make joint efforts to promote the development of women and children's cause.

Shen stressed the importance of adhering to the people-centered development philosophy, and said that more efforts should be made to conduct in-depth research on policies, systems and measures that promote women and children's further development. Studies should be made of ways to continue to fulfill women and children's aspirations for a better life, and to identify new tasks and requirements in the areas of women's employment, education and healthcare as well as protection of women and children’s rights. Full consideration should also be given to the realistic differences between men and women and the special interests of women.
Shen urged analysis of the issues in imbalanced and inadequate development of women and children as well as their further needs and expectations.
Shen also noted that practical and feasible suggestions on policies and specific goals should be put forward to eliminate gender discrimination in employment, improve rural maternal and child health care, promote rural children's education, especially of girls, and protect the legal rights and interests of women and children in a bid to facilitate the women and children's cause.
Huang Xiaowei, Deputy Director of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council and Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF spoke at the symposium. Zhang Xiaolan, Xia Jie and Wu Haiying, vice-presidents and members of the Secretariat of the ACWF, Zhao Wen, Cai Shumin and Zhang Dongmei, members of the Secretariat of the ACWF, and heads of departments and affiliated institutions of the ACWF, attended the symposium.
